Who we are

Whitton Choral Society is a mixed four-part choir based in Whitton, which is near Twickenham, in west London, UK

We are small compared to some choral societies with a membership of around 35-40 people, but we are a friendly group with a wide range of ages and abilities.

New members are welcome, see the Join us page for more details. There are no auditions, and there are currently vacancies in all parts.

We rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 7.45pm to 9.45pm in Whitton Baptist Church in Hounslow Road, Whitton TW2 7BZ - click here for a map.

Whitton Choral Society is affiliated to Richmond upon Thames Arts Council (artsrichmond) and The National Federation of Music Societies

What we do

We normally sing three concerts a year:

  • A traditional Christmas Carol concert on a Saturday before Christmas, including carols for audience participation
  • A Good Friday evening concert which is considered to be a church service and therefore comprises religious works
  • A summer evening event in June/July with secular music which sometimes includes a barbeque or other refreshments

We hire professional or semi-professional soloists and accompanists, and charge for concert tickets and/or take a retiring collection, but we also raise money for charities, often locally-based ones.

Concerts are sung in Whitton Baptist Church or St. Augustine's Church, Whitton

Concerts

Our next event is a concert on Good Friday 6th April 2012 at 7.30pm in Whitton Baptist Church. For more details of the programme, see the Next concert page.

We start rehearsing on Wednesday 4th January 2012.

News

We held a second Music and Vocal Workshop on Saturday 5th March 2011 in the Whitton Baptist Church Hall. 26 attendees, including three non-choir members, spent a fun morning learning about rhythm, melody and harmony with the aid of home-made "Boomwhacker"® tubes and a range of other instruments, led by Neil Hawes. In the afternoon, a vocal learning session was led by Patricia Williams of the Blackheath Choir.

Here is the choir in July 2010 singing at the summer concert:
