Information for prospective members:

Whitton Choral Society (WCS) was formed in 1968 as a result of a group of people from local churches coming together at St. Augustine's Church once a year to take part in a music and mime production. Many of its members are still from local churches, but there is also a wider membership.

The majority of the music performed is drawn from the musical traditions of the various churches, although secular works are frequently included, as also are modern sacred pieces.

The season runs from September until June, during which time three concerts are held, including a sacred work on Good Friday. These concerts are usually held at churches in Whitton.

Practices are held every Wednesday at 7.45pm at Whitton Baptist Church and members are required to attend on a regular, committed basis. Attendance at the final rehearsal, usually on the afternoon of a concert, is compulsory unless working commitments make it impossible.

Tony Flood, writing for the local "Guardian newspaper" and "Richmond and Twickenham Times" in a piece entitled "Whitton Choral Society: Hitting the right notes", said:
The Whitton Choral Society ... is going from strength to strength. Its latest triumph was its excellent contribution to Music for a Royal Occasion, an apt title for the hugely successful Community Concert staged at the Church of St. Augustine, Whitton on February 1st and 2nd. The concert marked the Golden Jubilee of The Queen's coronation in 1953 and featured music performed at coronations.

Under the direction of choirmaster Ian McFarlane, the society and the church choirs of St Augustine, St Edmunds and St Phillip and St James gave magnificent support to the Corps of Army Music Orchestra and the Kneller Hall Trumpeters, conducted superbly by Lt. Col. Geoff Kingston.

All received great ovations, but the biggest applause was reserved for soprano Hrafnhildur Bjornsdottir, whose stirring performance showed why she was a hit in leading roles at the Icelandic opera houses. The highlights were her solo 'Queen of the Night', an aria from the opera The Magic Flute by Mozart, the 'Coronation March' by William Walton and the 'Halleujah Chorus' by Handel.

...Judging by their performance at Music for a Royal Occasion they are hitting all the right notes!
